What makes us sustainable
We are always looking for innovative, sustainable practices that we can apply to our products.
We use salvaged fabrics, to make the Emery Street Wellness product. Re-use of existing materials avoids the problems created by proprietary fabrics.
The end use of the garments is addressed by putting as many machine wash and gentle tumble dry care labels in the garments as possible- Our goal is to not have any Dry Clean only tags in any of the garments.
Our products are made in the USA; All of it is sewn here in California. Manufacturing locally creates a healthier community, and reduces the ecological footprint - with less fossil fuel used to transport the goods.
Susan teaches sustainable practices to Students at the University of California, and High school level, through classes and internships. Internships at the Emery Street Studio, combine her knowledge of being self-employed and her experiences at the corporate level in the fashion industry.
We apply Re-cycling practices on every level at the Emery Street Studio; including fabric, paper, cans, bottles, boxes hazardous waste, and e-waste. We utilize low energy lighting, and share the building with other sustainable conscious tenants. Our goal is to become green certified by the city of Emeryville.
Why go Green?
How can we not?! The evidence is overwhelming that raw materials are finite, waste products will stress our natural resources, and that the choices of today will dictate our future.
Emery Street Designs is committed to attaining a zero waste operating environment: we recycle, we salvage, we re-distribute.
